“I knew a bit before, but not as much as I know now!” Therapeutic Foster Carer
Presentation by Dr Jane Herd
Following on from Colin McGinn’s excellent presentation at the last BPF on the 15th March and as part of our ‘What Works’ series of presentations, Dr Jane Herd is presenting her work with foster carers. ‘Foster carers often look after our most traumatised children without knowing much about the basic theory and practice skills required to undertake such work. Orb8 has therefore developed a 15 session training relevant to all foster carers. This presentation will explain the Orb8 model of practice, the structure and content of the course and the findings from the evaluation of the first two cohorts’ Dr Jane Herd – is founder and CEO of Orb8 a Social Enterprise focused on improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of traumatised, hard to reach and marginalised children and young people. It provides a range of specialist services based on neurodevelopmental, trauma and attachment theories which include service development, consultation, training, bespoke courses and packages of direct work. Dr Herd has worked in Children’s Social Care for over 30 years. She has specialised in the area of children and young people’s mental health as a psycho-social Social Worker and completed her Professional Doctorate in Social Work at the Tavistock and Portman in 2015. Dr Herd has previously undertaken a wide range of roles at senior management level, including Senior Clinical Lecturer at The Tavistock and Portman and Director of The Centre of Social Work Practice.
There is no charge for the forum, but members of IRCT will be given priority. Membership for individuals is £50.00 and for organisations is £100.00. Both types of membership give you priority access to all BPFs and a reduction for a regional forum. To become a member click here
